Boy Trouble

Oh boy....Reed is going to keep us on our toes!!

Last Tuesday evening (5/18/10) we made our first trip to the ER. I had put Reed to bed and Luke and I were working on some finishing touches in our kitchen when I heard the scariest cry/scream coming from Reed's room. I ran upstairs to see what was going on and Reed had gotten sick in his bed and was having difficulties breathing. It was one of the scariest moments ever for me. I immediately brought him downstairs and took him outside to get some cold air in him. But after about 10 minutes, I decided to take him to the nearest Urgent Care. Immediately, Reed received a nebulized breathing treatment then several Xrays to make sure his lungs were clear. We were about to be released to go home with a nebulizer when the physician decided we needed to make a trip to the ER because his breathing was becoming more strained. Once we got to the ER, Reed was given another nebulized treatment and steroids. We stayed until about 3:45am for observation and that seemed to do the trick. Reed was diagnosed with a case of Croup. But, it's so weird that it came on so quickly and strong. That day, he was fine and by evening he had started to develop a small cough, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'm glad that is behind us and hope to never deal with Croup again!

So now...just last night while we were outside, Reed found a fuzzy cute little caterpillar (harmless right?!). Well, not so harmless to Reed. We had let Reed play with his new found friend and noticed he had munched on him a little bit. The caterpillar's hair was all over Reed's mouth and tongue. They actually were embedded and causing irritation. I tried and tried to get the hairs to wipe off, but they wouldn't. Needless to say, we had another long long night. Reed was irritable all night long. I called the doctor this morning because Reed's mouth and chin were pretty red and a little swollen. Come to find out, Reed is probably allergic to caterpillars!

Reed has bumps on his torso too, but the camera doesn't
do much for what his face and belly really look like.
